Odessa is the 3rd most populous city in Ukraine and a major center of tourism, seaport and transport hub at the northwestern shore of the black sea (so take with you your swimming clothes!).
Not only was Odessa recognized as "Pearl of the Black Sea", during the Russian Empire and Soviet Union perceived as "Southern Capital" but also has a long history of cultural diversity. On its location there were both a Greek and later Tatar settlement , it was conquered first by the Grand Duchy of Lithuanian and then by the Ottomans, before Russian Empress Katharina the Great (as we all know a German) founded Odessa officially in 1794. Being the multiethnic cultural center and the original home from Natalya's family, we couldn't imagine a better place to celebrate our wedding with you. (Yes, Sören is absolutely into history and insisted on this part :) )
Please find below further important things to know before you come to Odessa.
RSVP: Please RSVP by February 1st, 2020 via love@roth.com.de . In so doing, please kindly confirm:
Wedding activity: If you plan an activity, game, or any other kind of entertainment (or you just feel like singing a song) get in contact with our Wedding Host Roman.
Yes, we do have a wedding Host. It is a Ukrainian tradition to have a host guiding through the wedding, for Germans: It is like a Thomas Gottschalk with a better sense of fashion.
You can reach Roman under following mail adress: mikhno.r@ukr.net
Dress Code: Cocktail attire.

Gifts: Many of you have asked about gifts. We live in Germany and will be flying to/from Ukraine with almost no room to take gifts back with us. Sharing our special day with us in Ukraine is the best present you could give us. However, if you do decide to bring a gift of some-sort, then we would be very grateful if it could fit within the size of a wedding card :)
Forms of payment: Although you can pay in all restaurants and hotels with your regular credit card, it is always advisable in Ukraine to have some cash money with you. We recommend to bring your Euros, Pounds or US-Dollar with you and exchange them in Ukraine - due to the instability of the local Hrywnja these are in high demand and you get better exchange rates than from your bank. We recommend informing your bank that you are going to Ukraine so you won't get an unpleasant surprise.
Transfer via Taxi: Whether it is from/to the airport or after a stroll in the city, always try to order Taxi via Uber or your Hotel. Otherwise, some taxis are unsolicitated drivers, which unfortunately try to earn "a few extra bucks" and not very convenient - it is however always safe.
Visa: As EU-Citizen you do not need any Visa or have to prepare anything. Simply announce yourself at arrival at the border control. If you or your partner is not a EU-Citizen, don't hesitate to contact us to support you in any kind of preparations you may have to undertake.
Language: While Odessa is a very international city, in some cases people will not speak English. So we collected some important Ukrainian Phrases for you.
